No. Charles Schwab doesn’t have a business checking account.
Its only checking product is Schwab Bank Investor Checking, a personal account that comes linked to a Schwab One brokerage account. For a business, Schwab has a brokerage account, small business retirement plans, and CDs and money market funds.
So if you need a place for customer payments, bills and a business debit card, you’ll have to open it somewhere else. Below is what Schwab does offer, and five business checking accounts to look at instead.
No Charles Schwab business checking, so what does Schwab have?
Schwab isn’t hiding a business account somewhere. Its bank’s account agreement says it plainly: “We do not offer corporate, business or most types of other nonpersonal accounts.”
Here’s what a business owner can get there.
Schwab Bank Investor Checking (personal only)
This is the account most people mean when they search for Schwab checking. It has no monthly service fees, no overdraft fees and no foreign transaction fees. You also get unlimited ATM fee rebates on cash withdrawals worldwide when you use the Schwab Bank Visa Platinum Debit Card.
It pays a variable rate of interest and comes with unlimited check writing.
Deposits are FDIC-insured up to $250,000 per depositor.
The catch? You can only open it as an individual or joint account, and only linked to a Schwab One brokerage account. That brokerage account has no minimum balance and you don’t have to fund it.
It’s a really good personal account. It’s just not a business account.
Schwab One Organization Account (brokerage)
A business can open a brokerage account at Schwab. The Schwab One Organization Account is open to corporations, sole proprietorships, partnerships, LLCs, unincorporated associations and investment clubs.
There’s no charge to open or maintain it, and online trades of listed stocks and ETFs are $0. But you need a $100,000 relationship minimum across all your Schwab accounts to qualify, and you apply with a downloaded application or by phone.
This is for investing your business’s money.
You can’t run payroll or pay vendors out of it the way you would with checking.
Small business retirement plans
This is where Schwab is strongest for the self-employed. It offers an Individual 401(k) for owner-only businesses with no employees, a SEP IRA for owner-only businesses or those with employees, and a SIMPLE IRA for businesses with up to 100 employees.
It also lists a Personal Defined Benefit Plan and a Business 401(k). Plus, Schwab sells CDs and money market funds to small businesses that want to park cash.
Can you use a personal Schwab account for business?
You shouldn’t.
Schwab Bank’s agreement says any account you open is a personal account, and that you agree to use it only for personal, family or household purposes. It also says Schwab may close the account, revoke privileges or convert it to another account type if you use a personal account for business purposes.
That’s pretty standard. Most banks write something like it into their personal account terms.
And even if nobody ever noticed, mixing the two is a headache. Every business deposit and expense gets buried in your groceries and streaming charges, and you have to dig them back out at tax time. A separate account does that sorting for you.
That goes for side gigs too. Even if you only freelance part time, it’s worth using one of the banks for freelancers to keep that money apart.
Business checking accounts to open instead of Schwab
If you like Schwab because it’s cheap and refunds ATM charges, you can get close to that for a business.
Four of these five have no monthly charge.
| Account | Monthly cost | Minimum to open | Transaction limits | ATMs | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Novo Business Checking | $0 | No minimum balance | None | No Novo ATM charges. Other operators’ charges refunded up to $7 a month | Freelancers and online sellers |
| Lili | $0 on Core. Paid plans $15, $35 or $55 | No minimum deposit | None listed | No Lili charge at in-network ATMs | Sole proprietors who want tax and bookkeeping tools |
| Axos Basic Business Checking | $0 | No initial deposit | Unlimited | Unlimited domestic ATM fee reimbursements | The closest match to Schwab’s ATM refunds |
| Bluevine Business Checking (Standard) | $0 | No minimum balance | Unlimited | No charge at in-network ATMs | Earning interest on checking |
| Chase Business Complete Banking | $15, or $0 if you meet one of five waivers | No minimum deposit | 20 checks, deposits and teller withdrawals per cycle, plus $5,000 in branch cash deposits | Chase ATMs and branches | Cash deposits and in-person banking |
Everything in that table came from each provider’s own site on October 12, 2026. Terms change, so check the account page before you apply.
Novo Business Checking
Novo Business Checking has no monthly fees, no minimum balance and no transaction limits. Novo doesn’t charge for ATM use, and it refunds what other ATM operators charge you, up to $7 a month.
That $7 cap is the big difference from Schwab, where the rebates are unlimited. If you pull cash a couple of times a month, you’re covered.
If you live at the ATM, you’re not.
Where Novo is really good is the software side. It connects to over 40 business tools, including Stripe, QuickBooks, Shopify, Square and Xero, and you can send invoices right from the account. Novo Reserves lets you split your balance into up to 20 buckets, so you can set money aside for taxes before you spend it.
Novo is a fintech, not a bank. Your deposits are FDIC-insured up to $250,000 through its partner bank, Middlesex Federal Savings.
Who is it for? Freelancers, consultants and online sellers who get paid digitally and want free checking that talks to their other tools. Novo’s site doesn’t mention interest or cash deposits, so skip it if you handle a lot of cash.
Lili
Lili is built for one-person businesses. The Core plan is $0 a month with no minimum deposit, and it comes with business checking, a Visa debit card and a savings account.
The paid plans are where it gets different. Pro is $15 a month and adds expense tracking by tax category, receipts and automatic set-asides for taxes. Smart is $35 and adds accounting software and unlimited invoicing. Premium is $55 and adds priority support. Each paid plan has a 30-day free trial.
Lili’s savings account pays 2.25% APY on balances up to $500,000. The rate is variable.
Lili doesn’t charge for in-network ATM use or foreign transactions. It’s a financial technology company, and banking services come from Sunrise Banks, N.A., Member FDIC.
Sole proprietors and single-member LLCs can both open one.
If all you want is free checking, Core does the job. Only pay for Pro or Smart if you’d actually use the tax and bookkeeping tools, because $15 to $35 a month adds up to $180 to $420 a year.
Axos Basic Business Checking
If the thing you love about Schwab is never paying for an ATM, this is the closest business match. Axos Basic Business Checking comes with unlimited domestic ATM fee reimbursements.
There are no monthly maintenance fees, no initial deposit, no minimum balance and unlimited transactions. Incoming wires are free, domestic and international, and Axos reimburses two outgoing domestic wires a month.
Axos is an actual bank, so your deposits are FDIC-insured up to $250,000 directly.
There’s also a welcome bonus of up to $200 with promo code START200, but only if your business was formed less than a year ago. You earn $50 for each month you keep an average daily balance of $3,000, in any four of your first five statement cycles. You have to apply by January 31, 2027, and closing the account within 180 days can cost you up to $200.
Axos doesn’t list any interest on the basic account.
If you just want free checking at a real bank, it’s a solid pick.
Bluevine Business Checking
Schwab’s personal checking pays interest. If you want that on a business account, look at Bluevine.
The Standard plan has no monthly fee and pays 1.3% APY on balances up to $250,000. You have to earn it each month, though.
Either spend $500 on your Bluevine debit card or receive $2,500 in customer payments.
Miss both and you earn nothing that month.
You also get no overdraft fees, no minimum balance, free standard ACH transfers and unlimited transactions. Bluevine doesn’t charge at in-network ATMs. The paid plans, Plus at $30 a month and Premier at $95, pay 1.75% and 3.0% APY with no activity requirement.
Bluevine is a fintech too. Banking services come from Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC, and deposits are insured up to $3 million per depositor through its program banks.
Chase Business Complete Banking
If your business takes in cash or you want to walk into a branch, Chase is the one to look at.
Chase Business Complete Banking costs $15 a month, and there are five ways to get that down to $0. The easiest for most small businesses is keeping a $2,000 minimum daily balance. You can also do it with $2,000 in purchases on a Chase business credit card or $2,000 in deposits from Chase’s payment tools.
There’s no minimum deposit to open. Each statement cycle you get up to 20 checks, deposits and teller withdrawals, and $5,000 in branch cash deposits, at no extra charge. Debit card purchases and Chase ATM deposits don’t count against that.
You can apply online if you’re a sole proprietor, a corporation, or an LLC with a single member or manager.
Anything else means a trip to a branch.
Bottom line: it’s the only one here that isn’t free by default. But if you deposit cash every week, none of the online accounts will work as well.

How we picked

Then we looked for business checking accounts that match at least one of those, and added Chase for anyone who needs a branch. We compared monthly cost, minimum to open, transaction limits and ATM access on each provider’s own site on October 12, 2026.
